Things Las Vegas Is Known For And Things To Do
The Brightest City in the USA
One of the wonders of Las Vegas is that its lights never seem to go off. In fact, the lights of the Vegas Strip are so bright that they have been seen from outer space! You may ask, isn’t the Manhattan neighborhood south of Central Park one of the brightest in the world? Actually, Central Park is not as bright as Las Vegas because the Egyptian-themed and pyramid-shaped Luxor Hotel on Las Vegas Boulevard (also known as the Strip) shines a light directly into the sky.
Furthermore, did you know that it costs $485,587,824 to run Las Vegas‘ 12,000,000 lights, according to a team of lighting equipment distributors based in the United Kingdom, Smart Lighting Industries. The money spent by the millions of visitors drawn to the lights each year appears to make the expense worthwhile. It now competes for the title with Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and Moscow, Russia, with recent studies indicating a light score for each city.
Things to do on the Las Vegas Strip
The lights never stop shining in the city that never sleeps. Here, you can find breathtaking light shows and dazzling sights from every angle of the city.
The most famous sight of Las Vegas has to be the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign. It’s free, which makes it even more attractive for visitors! This sign is lit with over 13,016 bulbs on its arches and the letters are made of metal. You can see this masterpiece of light at night on a guided tour or while driving on I-15 South toward Sin City.
The Bellagio Fountains are another wonderful sight to see in Vegas! In front of the Bellagio Hotel and Casino, there is a tall dancing water fountain light show that performs music every half hour after dark. The fountains shoot water 150 feet into the air and have been known to go as high as 460 feet!
For some good old neon signs and buildings, try Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas. Here you’ll find plenty of bright lights on the famous casinos downtown. Or if you’d rather see Las Vegas from above, there is the Strat Hotel Las Vegas where you can see all of Las Vegas below you!

The Sin City
Despite its nickname, Sin City isn’t all about debauchery. In fact, the city’s history with the mob explains why it’s nicknamed Sin City in the first place.
When gambling was legalized in Nevada in 1931, a lot of people associated gambling with sin. That’s because gambling is an addictive activity that can easily lead to people ruining their lives. And Las Vegas was the perfect place for all things sinful—mobsters from all over flocked to this desert town to run shady businesses and set up casinos. One of these mobsters was Bugsy Siegel, who helped open The Flamingo in 1947 on the Strip (which later became one of the most iconic hotels on the Strip).
Following Siegel’s assassination that year, more mob members became involved in Las Vegas’ gaming sector. Sin City was dubbed “Sin City” because criminal activities flourished there. But just because it’s dubbed Sin City doesn’t mean it’s still a sin-filled haven. In fact, today’s Entertainment Capital of the World has numerous enjoyable and healthy activities—shopping malls, sports facilities, theaters, restaurants, and more.

Las Vegas Entertainment: The Casinos
Now that we’ve examined why Las Vegas is known as Sin City, it’s time to talk about the casinos! Gambling has made Las Vegas famous all over the world, developing an entertainment center that few other cities in the world can compete with, such as Macau.
Many people come to Las Vegas expecting to see the typical glamorous casinos. They expect to see rows and rows of slot machines, blackjack tables, and poker rooms. While these are certainly present in the city, they are not the only things that makeup casinos in Las Vegas. Many people are confused by this and don’t understand the difference between casinos and casino resorts.
Casino resorts are much different from casinos. In a casino resort, there are things like swimming pools, restaurants, fitness centers, nightclubs, spas, and luxurious hotel suites. These are not just for guests staying at the hotel but for anyone who chooses to visit the place. Whereas a casino is more of a traditional gambling establishment where most people play slot machines or other games of chance. Most of these have very little in the way of luxury or special amenities.
Casino resorts are found throughout Las Vegas, but many people prefer those on or near The Strip. These hotels are more luxurious than others on The Strip because they cater to high-end gamblers who also want to enjoy other amenities.
Casinos to go to in Las Vegas
While casinos are generally the way to instantly lose all your savings, there are still plenty of casinos that you’ll just want to visit for the experience! If you want to play poker while having a fantastic view of the city, try the Strat Hotel & Tower Casino! Or if you want to indulge in some delicious dishes while playing slots, go to the Cosmopolitan Casino. There are plenty of casinos to go to in Las Vegas that’ll fit your taste, there’s even a casino for non-gamblers, the MGM Grand!

Las Vegas Entertainment for Adults and Kids
Las Vegas has become a more family-friendly entertainment city as the casinos and hotel resorts realize how much money they can make from families paying to stay in the hotels. The Strip casinos offer many activities for kids, such as supervised pools, movie theaters, and arcades.
However, Vegas is the place you go to be a kid all over again. Las Vegas is an adult playground where you can drink, smoke, gamble, and party as much as you want. If your idea of fun is taking shots at the bar, drinking all night in a casino, and smoking cigarettes indoors, then Sin City is the perfect spot for you.
The thing with Vegas is that there’s just so much to do. There’s something for everyone no matter what their interests are, even if they’re not into drinking and partying and gambling. Everyone has their own fun time in Vegas, and the point of this brief is to get you started on finding yours!
Family-Friendly Places in Vegas to visit
Las Vegas is often known as Sin City, but did you know that there are plenty of family-friendly entertainment places for everyone? You can start off by going to the Circus Circus Hotel and Casino and visiting their splash zone and pool. There are plenty of slides for your kids to enjoy, would they dare to try the 50 ft slide? After getting a little wet, you can visit Hershey’s Chocolate World where your children can indulge in any chocolate they want (but not too much), or the Fun Dungeon at Excalibur, where there are over 200 arcade games to play. If you’re looking for a wholesome activity in Las Vegas, there are plenty to try!

Las Vegas Entertainment: The Desert Climate
It is no secret that Las Vegas is hot. To be more specific, it’s very hot and dry during most of the year, so it can be a bit uncomfortable at times. After all, Las Vegas is located in the Mojave Desert (a rain shadow in the southwestern United States). You’ll often find temperature ranges from 38°F to 105°F, but it has been known to reach over 111°F!
As a result, the weather in Las Vegas is hot and dry all year, yet there are some beautiful months when more tourists would visit Las Vegas – from March to May and September to November.
In addition to its natural weather, Las Vegas also has a lot of artificially created weather, such as air-conditioned casinos, shopping malls, and movie theaters. They have this because it is not possible to have outdoor activities when it is too hot outside. This unique climate contributes to Las Vegas’ status as one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world.
Outdoor Fun out in the Sun in Las Vegas
If you come to Las Vegas, you’ll find that it can get very hot here, with temperatures reaching up to 115 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer. That’s why most people stay indoors or visit air-conditioned casinos. But don’t let that stop you from doing what you want to do when you visit the city!
There are plenty of outdoor entertainment activities in Las Vegas, such as the Red Rock Canyon, where you can hike, and take in the scenery, and is 5-10 degrees cooler than in downtown Las Vegas but you should still be prepared to bring water and towels. Or if you want to get a little wet, visit Lake Mead where you can go kayaking, paddle boating, and plenty more. There are no shortages of outdoor activities while you’re out in the sun in Las Vegas.

If you want to spend money on something that will improve your life or make you look and feel great, Las Vegas is the place to go. Las Vegas is great for bargain-hunting, with many discount stores and designer outlet centers.
Las Vegas Entertainment: Shopping Malls
There are plenty of shopping malls in Las Vegas. You can practically find them in every corner! If you want to escape a little bit from the heat and cool off, there is the Shops at The Crystals, showcasing the most exclusive retailers, or the Miracle Mile Shops for the entertainment it provides. Shopping malls are plentiful in Las Vegas and you just have to find the right one!
